The command is given four times in the New Testament:
Matt 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, Acts 1:8
I. Command to Witness
A. Luke 24:48
1. Testifying of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection: (what they had seen)
2. Command to repent. Vs. 47 (must be preached)
3. Responsibility to preach the gospel. (Ye…)
B. Definition of a Witness
1. Testifying to a fact.
2. A person who knows or sees something personally.
3. Telling what happened to you.
II. The Characteristics of Witnessing
A. Short Form
1.The woman at the well – (John 4:27-30)
2.She could not win souls, but she did start witnessing.
3. Hers was a brief witness.
B. Sermon Form
1. Acts 22:1-16
2. Note the content of the Apostle Paul’s witness.
a. His Background
b. His confrontation with the resurrected Jesus.
c. His witness became more detailed with time.
d. Are you becoming more aware of what happened
to you when the Lord saved you?
III. Constructive Witnessing
A. Personal Testimony
1. Relate what took place in your life.
2. Prepare it before hand.
3. Recite it to yourself.
B. Practice it.
1. Give your witness regularly.
2. Look for opportunities.
C. Present it.
1. Ask God to open doors.
2. Witness as often as possible.
3. Others would listen to you when they would not often listen to a preacher.
