“I am not a sinner”
Answer-Rom. 3:10, Gal. 3:22.
If you are not a sinner, are you keeping God’s commands? What about Matt. 22:37,38? “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
No one will ever be saved until they have seen themselves as a sinner.
“I am as good as others.”
Answer - Violin players do not take their tones from each other, but from the piano. Builders are constantly using a plumbline, the level, and the square. We need to live by standards and not by comparisons. Measure your self by Jesus Christ if you want to know how good or bad you are.
You are not saved or lost by the deeds of others.
“I am doing the best I can.”
Answer - How long have you been doing your best? Have you really succeeded? How long will it take for you to make yourself fit for heaven? Suppose you die right now? The best you can do is to acknowledge you cannot do anything to save yourself - except believe.
“I am too big a sinner.”
Answer - Jesus came to save all sinners. 1 Tim. 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
Are your sins scarlet? Isa. 1:18,
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Are you lost? Luke. 19:10,
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Are you without strength? Rom. 5:6-8, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Jesus will not cast out anyone who will come to Him. (Jn. 6:37)
“There are to many hypocrites.”
Answer - Hypocrites are lost. If you let hypocrites keep you from receiving Christ, you will spend and eternity in Hell with them. Don’t hide behind a hypocrite. Rom. 14:12, “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” Matt. 7:1-5, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
“There is way too much to give up.”
Answer - It would be better for you to give up everything, than to lose your soul. Ps. 84:11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
Matt.16:26, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Rom. 8:32,“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
“I cannot understand.”
Answer - Why let mystery cause you to refuse the Master? Do you understand the chemistry of digestion? Does your ignorance of understanding it keep you from eating steak?
Can you understand why the same sun and the same soil and the same rain get sweetness into an orange and sourness into a lemon?
Lay aside this excuse and trust Christ as your Saviour, (accept Him by faith) Rom. 11:33, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”
“I am trying to be a Christian.”
Answer - It is not trying, but trusting that counts. A drowning man tries with all his might and perishes, but if he would trust in the saving power of another and be rescued. Isa. 12:2, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”
No work that you can do for yourself can substitute what Christ has already done for you. Eph. 2:9, “Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
James 2:10, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
“I do not think that I am old enough to make a decision for Christ.”
Answer - Eccl. 12:1, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;”
Isa. 55:6, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:”
2 Sam. 19:35, “I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?”
“I intend to make a decision before I die.”
Answer - Can you determine the hour before your death?
Nothing is so uncertain as life.
Prov. 29:1, “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” Job 34:20, “In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.” Heb. 9:27, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
“But I am religious. . .”
Answer - Religion is something that is often on the outside.
Matt. 7:20-23, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
The Apostle Paul was a religious man, but was saved. Gal. 1:13, “For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:”
