What is a Christian Education?
Christian Education is...
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” (John 14:6). Apart from Christ, there can be no true education.
  • A God-centered approach to education, rather than man-centered or humanistic approach.
  • An integration of the Word of God into every area of the student’s life and doing away with the negative influences of outcome based education.
  • Teaching a child Christian character, responsibility, integrity, morals, and patriotism.
  • Setting forth high academic, spiritual, and moral goals and then helping the student to reach those goals.
  • Placing before the student a dedicated, qualified, and concerned Christian teacher who, by example, suggests to the student the high academic, moral, and spiritual stands we seek.

Christian Education is education that is based on the truth of God’s Word which states, “In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3)

Every area of life must be Christ-centered. Each student must understand God’s wisdom, power, judgment, and love as he views history, science, math, English, music, art, character development, and life goals. Thereby the student is enabled to truly have knowledge with wisdom, and to understand God’s design and plan for them.

STANDARDS OF CONDUCT

Students of First Baptist Christian School are expected to refrain from talking about or engaging in such activities as cheating, swearing, the use of worldly slang, smoking, gambling, buying or listening to rock or country music, dancing, drinking alcoholic beverages, using narcotics, attending the movie theater, or viewing in any way TV programs that make use of profanity, immorality, or those philosophies which are unchristian in their approach.

Students who participate in such activities are subject to suspension, and possible expulsion. Students are expected to act in an orderly, respectful manner at all times, maintaining Christian standards of courtesy, kindness, politeness, language, attitudes, morality, and honesty. Students must agree to strive cheerfully towards unquestionable character in dress, conduct, and attitude.

When considering standards of conduct, the question that must be answered is, “what are the limits of the school’s responsibility/authority?” First Baptist Christian School limits the boundaries of its authority to the campus/school activities. This is not to say that conduct outside of these limits will not affect decisions. The opposite is true. Conduct off campus will affect our decision, but the parents are responsible for their children when they are not under the supervision of the school.

Any student observing questionable activities, or overhearing conversations which are contray to the policies of First Baptist Christian School, should immediately discuss the matter with the Monitor or Supervisor. This is not tattling. It has been said, “all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” “To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

ADMISSIONS POLICY

The First Baptist Christian School admits students of any race, color, and national/ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded the student at the school. It does not in any way discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national/ethnic origin in administering its educational policies and other school-related programs. Parents, however, must understand and support the purpose of First Baptist Christian School, and students must be agreeable to the standards and objectives of this School.

Students who are admitted from other schools that are members of FBCPV must have a conduct record that is average or better. All new students are accepted on a two-month probationary status. At the end of the two months, an evaluation will be made to determine proper and continued placement.

FBCS is not equipped to accept severely handicapped or problem children and is a school for members of First Baptist Church of Peaceful Valley.

FBCS maintains the right to refuse admittance to anyone. First Baptist Christian School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.

REGISTRATION and TUITION

Registration is non refundable and is $50.00 per child. Tuition is kept at a minimum and could increase at the discretion of the pastor/administrator. The cost for First Baptist Christian School is $100.00 for the first child, $50.00 for the second, and $25.00 for the third. Families who have more than three children that desire for their children to attend will be interviewed and finances will be discussed. Our goal is education, not profit. Keeping the tuition affordable is our main concern.

Kindergarten and First grade (ABEKA) Program / 2nd-6th grade (ACE PACE FEE)

Kindergarten and first grade students will use the ABEKA program. The parents will be responsible for the purchase of their particular material. These students will be in a classroom atmosphere and taught by a teacher. Second grade thru sixth grade students will use PACES to do their work. The cost of each PACE is the parent’s responsibility. The school receives a 35% discount and will bill the parents on the 25th of each month for the tuition due for the next month and the amount of PACES that were used the previous month. Payments are due on the 1st of each month and will be considered past due on the 10th.

TRANSFER STUDENTS
In: Upon acceptance of a student, the parents will sign a Record Release Form requesting all records from previous schools.
Out: Official records will be released from FBCS when:
  • An official Record Release Form or letter is received from receiving school (signed by parents).
  • All account balances are paid in full.

PROBATION

Probation is necessary when a student has a serious attitude or behavioral problem. It is intended to give the student a controlled opportunity to correct the problem. If satisfactory improvement is not evident by the end of the period of probation, the student will be asked to withdraw from the school.

SUSPENSION/EXPULSION

Action which evidences chronic disrespect, lack of courtesy, disturbance, abuse of permission, incomplete academic work, or poor attitude will be dealt with in accordance with the School’s disciplinary policy. Recurring problems which demonstrate lack of concern for improvement or spiritual growth will lead to suspension or expulsion.

Students who maliciously harm other individuals, destroy property, or engage in any illegal act will be immediately suspended or expelled. Some of the reason a student may be expelled are as follows:

  • Cutting class
  • Lying and or stealing
  • Disobedience or disrespect
  • Disregard of rules
  • Dress code violation
  • Profanity or abusive language
  • Homework violation
  • Destruction of property
  • Horse playing or fighting

Suspension

A student can be suspended from FBCS upon the recommendation of the supervisor/monitor and the concurrence of the Principal. There are two types of suspension:

  • On-Campus – the student is required to do school work under supervision.
  • Off-Campus – the student must be kept at home and is the responsibility of the parents. Off campus suspension students are not allowed on School Campus for any reason (except for church related functions). Suspension, On or Off Campus, is considered the same as an unexcused absence with the same consequences.

Expulsion

A student can be expelled from FBCS upon the recommendation of the administrator and the concurrence of the Pastor. A student may be expelled if the parents will not cooperate with the school, or if the students conduct, attitude, or lack of effort makes it unadvisable for them to remain. Excessive unexcused absences, are reasons for expulsion.

PATRIOTISM

Patriotism is the love and loyal support of a person for his country, and places unique emphasis upon the greatness of America’s heritage and the sacrifices and character of her heros. The Constitution of the United States of America guarentees liberties to educate in order doctrines of self-discipline, respect for authority, obedience to the laws of the land, and their natural outgrowth, love for flag and country.

Each student is required to memorize, and take part in daily, the following pledges:

The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic of which is stands;
One nation under God, indivisible,
With liberty and justice for all.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Christian Flag:
I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag,
And to the Saviour for Whose Kingdom it stands;
One Saviour crucified risen and coming again;
With life and liberty for all who believe.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Bible:
I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s Holy Word.
I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path;
I will hide God’s words in my heart,
That I might not sin against God.
CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Devotions:
Teachers have devotions daily. In these meaningful sessions they examine Biblical principles of life.
Chapel:
Chapel sessions are held each week during which the student identifies their education with the ministry of the church.
Special Meetings:
Periodically during the Academic year, the First Baptist Church of Peaceful Valley hosts and implements Revival and Evangelistic meetings and Conferences. Attendance at such meetings is expected by the students.

  • Students must bring Bibles to all devotions, Chapel, and Special Meetings.
Christian Service:

Since FBCS is a ministry and integral part of the First Baptist Church of Peaceful Valley, all students will fill out a “Christian Service Report” every Monday. This report indicates church attendance and Christian service activities engaged in during the previous week.

Setting the Example

FBCS students are expected to set the example for others at all times. Anytime you are on church grounds/church activities you are required to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner. Remember, others are watching you and we must make every effort to show proper reverence in God’s House.

Unruly or culpable, negligent behavior during school or after school may result in action being taken under the provisions of the handbook.

REQUIRED SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Students not having all required supplies will be given demerits. All supplies are to be plain.

General supplies for all students:

  • Personal Bible (KJV ONLY/Old and New Testament)
  • Insight notebook (for devotion notes)
  • Dictionary (paperback acceptable)
  • Student handbook
  • Blue ballpoint pen
  • Pencils (2 required at all times)
  • Colored pencils (assortment)
  • Eraser
  • PACE carrier or folder
  • File box and 3 x 5 cards (PACE 60 and above)
  • Standard notebook paper for reports and compositions

The reason items are to be plain is because many logos which are on school supplies and equipment are not acceptable to moderate Christian Standards.

If a child has a click type pencils they must have their own lead, and they must also, keep regular pencils at their office.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS

Emergency closings due to weather conditions will be announced on various radio stations. Listen to your radio or television for delayed or closing announcements.

ATTENDANCE

A written excuse signed by the parents must be presented to the supervisor upon returning to school after an absence. If the absence is foreseeable, a note must be sent in advance. Doctor, dental, music lessons, etc., are to be scheduled after school hours if at all possible or on Wednesday after 1:30 p.m. Regular and faithful attendance each day is a must in order for the student to benefit from the academic program provided.

ABSENCE POLICY

Absences are reasons other than personal sickness and/or personal emergencies (such as death in family) are considered to be unexcused. If you know a student is going to be absent, please make arrangements in advance with Administration. If this is not done, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused.

No student is allowed more than 20 days of unexcused absences. If more than 20 days are incurred, that student must make up for those days by attending school in the summer on Saturdays, not holidays.

LUNCH AND SNACKS

FBCS does not operate a hot luch program. The student is to bring their lunch and a drink each day. We do have a drink machine (.75 cents each). We also have a microware to warm any food. Lunch should be nutritious and not just sweets.

Students are expected to:

  • Eat only in designated areas.
  • Eat with good table manners.
  • Clean off the table and floor in lunch area.
  • Put all trash in the wastebasket.
  • Go directly to recreation area after being dismissed by Supervisor/Monitor.

MUSIC

Christian Music – only that which glorifies the Lord – is permitted. Instruments are to be played only in supervised music classes. The church auditorium piano and organ are strictly off limits at all times. No contemporary or so called “Christian Rock” is authorized for use on school grounds.

PARTIES

Parties are not school-sponsored unless parents receive notification from the Supervisor.

PHONE USE

The church phone is reserved for official business and emergencies only. Students desiring to place such calls will give the name and number to school personal who will in turn place the call.

ANNUAL AWARDS PROGRAM

Gifts, ribbons, certificates, and trophies highlight the Annual Awards Program held each spring. Students compete during the year to win these awards:

  • MOST PACES
  • HIGHEST PACE AVERAGE
  • CHRISTIAN CHARACTER
  • SCHOOL SPIRIT
  • PERFECT ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATES
  • HONOR ROLL CERTIFICATES
  • MOST IMPROVED

Tardiness Policy

A student is considered “TARDY” if they are not in the Learning Center when the whistle is blown of the bell has rung at 8:30 a.m. Tardiness is to be avoided. Being consistently tardy is a hindrance to academic progress. The student will be given one (1) demerit for tardiness and must work through snack break. Consistent tardiness will not be tolerated and could result in suspension.

HOMEWORK

The responsibility for academic achievement is placed with the student. It is believed that students should only occasionally need to take academic work home. The goals set by the student and reviewed by the Supervisor are no more than the student is capable of completing during the academic day. Should a student not meet his goals for that day, he will be required to complete the work at home.

Should the student have homework a “Homework Slip” will be sent home giving the page numbers to be completed in each PACE, and is to be signed by the parent. The parents’ signature does not indicate that the parent thinks that work is completed or correct – it merely indicates that the parent is aware that the student had a homework assignment. The signed “Homework Slip” is to be returned with the completer assignment the following school day. If homework is not complete, one (1) demerit is given for each subject not completed.

TRANSPORTATION

Due to insurance, gas, maintenance. Etc., FBCS does not provide transportation to and from school. Car pools are suggested for convenience and economic reasons.

FIRE DRILLS

Practice fire drills will be held.

FIELD TRIPS

Fridays will be the day that students who meet specified minimum requirements will be taken on educational and/or recreational field trips. Such trips enhance the learning experience, as well as make for an enticing motivation.

CONGRATULATION SLIPS

Each time a student is awarded a PACE star, he/she is given a Congratulations Slip which he/she takes to their parents to keep them informed of this progress and achievement. Parents then have an ideal opportunity to encourage and compliment the student at the time.

PROGRESS REPORTS

The grading system of FBCS is designed to give parents a true indication of the student’s progress or lack of progress. Progress Reports are given to the students the next Wednesday after the end of the quarter. The report is to be signed by both parents and returned to the school within a few days. The year-end Progress Report is mailed to the parents when all accounts are current. In case of a damaged or lost Progress Report, a $20.00 replacement fee will be charged.

Discipline

This is not a corrective institution; therefore, we ask that parents not seek enrollment in First Baptist Christian School with the idea that we reform the child. We work with the home in the formal training of each child, but we do not take the place of parents who have experienced difficulty in fulfilling their roles.

All new students are admitted on a probationary status for the first three months and the Administration reserves the right to forbid further enrollment for any reason. Any student with a history of disciplinary problems of any type (school, police, etc.) must disclose to the administration the details of the problem prior to enrollment.

All students are expected at all times to conduct themselves in a manner becoming a Christian. GRIPING IS NOT TOLERATED! If your child does come home complaining about a policy or procedure, please follow the procedure outline below:

  • Give the staff the benefit of the doubt.
  • Recognize that your child’s reporting is emotionally biased and may not include all the facts.
  • Realize that the School has reasons for every rule and policy and that they are enforced without partially.
  • Support the School faculty and administration, and call the school for all the information.

When a child’s attitude is not in accord with the School polices and principles, the student will be placed on probation and both parents will be called for a conference. If, in the eyes of the administration, the situation has not changed satisfactorily with the specified time, the parents will be asked to withdraw the child.

The School is dedicated to the training of our young people in a program of academics, activity, and living the is Christ-centered. We believe that all things should be done “decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40), and that our students should be taught to accept the responsibility to “walk honorably before all men.”

Here, we maintain a discipline that is firm, consistent, fair, and tempered with love. Our staff maintains standards of behavior in the Learning Center through kindness, love, and a genuine regard for the students. Therefore, when disciplinary action becomes necessary, it is firmly carried out, tempered by good judgment and understanding.

Remember students: The Lord Jesus expects us to be disciplines in all areas of life.
Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Romans 13:1 – Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Proverbs 6:23 – For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Anyone who takes these types of actions do so at their own risk. Misrepresenting yourself is a lie and may be dealt with as such.

It is requested that all foreseeable doctor, dental, and other appointments be made for Wednesday afternoon or a day other than a school day.

Parent Involvement

It is our firm conviction, found in Proverbs 22:6, and Ephesians 6:4, that children belong to the Lord (Psalm 127) and are entrusted to the parents. The bottom-line responsibility for their training rests, not with the school or church, but with the parents. Therefore, parents’ involvement in every child’s education is a vital part of the success of their education.

Parent Orientation (held on a designated evening just prior to the opening of the school year) and School Programs as needed. EVERY PARENT IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE PARENT ORIENTATION AND EACH SCHOOL PROGRAM. It is our goal at First Baptist Christian School, and our sincere desire, to keep communication lines open between parents, teacher and administrator.

DRESS CODE

We believe that men should look like men, and ladies should look like ladies. The following dress code is required and will help to produce moral fiber and comeliness among both boys and girls. It will also help promote courtesy between members of the opposite sex.

Administration reserves the right to inform students of dress code violations. If there is any doubt about a possible violation, please ask the administration for approval before the garment is worn to avoid embarrassment for the student.
